Be Careful If You See These Stickers On Fruits You Are Buying

Ever wondered what does the stickers you often see on produce items such as apples, bananas, and oranges on the means?

Those stickers on fruits and veggies tell you quite a bit.

The numbers are called Price Look-Up (PLU) codes for fresh, unprocessed produce items.

These codes are administered by the International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS), who maintain a list of five-digit codes that identify qualities associated with a particular item.

All PLU codes are four digits long. The only exception is when there’s a specific identifying number preceding the PLU code.

- If the PLU code is preceded with an 8, it is a GMO food.

- If the PLU code is preceded with a 9, it is an organically food.

- If the PLU code is NOT preceded with an 8 or a 9 – it’s simply a four-digit number beginning with 3 or 4 – it is a conventionally grown food.

This very useful information use it whenever you chose fruits for home. Make sure number 9 is the number your chosen fruit contains.

Make sure other people reach for this information. A lot of people are unaware of the codes they see on the products.
