Leptospirosis: Causes, Early Symptoms, Types, Treatment and Prevention That You Should Know About

Leptospirosis is an infectious condition that can happen in humans and animals worldwide, it may happen in two phases; several patients may develop kidney or liver failure, respiratory failure, meningitis, or even death.

The bacterial infection is scatter through the urine of infected animals from a lot of species, both domesticated (like dogs, and horses) and wild infected animals (like rodents or wild pigs).

CAUSES

- The cause of leptospirosis is bacteria (genus Leptospirosis and species interrogans), a Gram-negative spirochete (a spiral-shaped bacteria).

The Leptospirosis bacteria infect numerous kinds of animals (a lot of wild animals, rodents, dogs, cats, pigs, horses, cattle, for instance) that after contaminate water, lakes, rivers, soil, and crops when they pee due to the bacteria are present in pee.

The bacteria then infect humans when they occupy by breaks in the skin or mucus membranes or when people ingest them.

The bacteria develop in the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. Person-to-person move of this illness is uncommon.

The incubation period for leptospirosis patients is about 7-12 days but it may range from 2-30 days.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

- The symptoms and signs of leptospirosis are inconsistent and are similar to those seen in many other illnesses such as dengue fever, hantavirus, brucellosis, malaria, and others). Symptoms can increase approximately 2 days to 4 weeks after vulnerable to the bacteria. Although several people have no symptoms, others may show like:

High fever
Chills
Headache
Muscle and joint pain
Fatigue
Sore throat
Abdominal ache
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Jaundice
Rashes
Reddish eyes

TREATMENT- Although there’s a controversy about taking antibiotics in the first phase of leptospirosis, antibiotics are suggested for treatment of patients with phase 2 or more serious symptoms. Several patients may need IV antibiotics and supportive hospital care like rehydration.

PREVENTION

- The endanger of getting leptospirosis can be greatly lessened through not swimming or wading in water that might be contaminated with animal pee, or removing contact with possible infected animals.
